Personal Goals Setting Required For Home Buying

By: Jim Brown

Certain goals must be set and achieved before people are considered suitable enough to buy a home. Some of these goals will take years to accomplish because there are other factors in life that must come before these personal goals. Many of the goals considered necessary to buy a home will require planning on an educational level that might add years to the end-goal of having enough money to buy a home.

To earn a higher income to be able to afford a home, people will spend 4 years or more getting their education. They will also have to be educated on all of the tasks that need to be accomplished in buying a home such as finding a realtor, searching for packing boxes, storage options for unneeded items and cleaning cost at the last location and the costs to move from one location to the other.

The personal goals set for buying a home might be altered to add enrollment fees to the list because the new home location might require that the children be enrolled in a new school district. A new school will mean new uniforms so that will have to be added to the list as well along with the regular expenses of school supplies and photographers for each child in the house.

With the right goals set though, the time to accomplish the home buying goal could be cut in half. Many real estate mortgage standards require a certain debt to income ratio in order to finance a mortgage. If people set a goal to reduce their debt to earn a better interest rate, then the finance rate for their home loan should be considerably lower, and may be low enough to cut the term of the mortgage to half.

Many people select a price range for the home they want and will set goals on how to raise that level of cash. They may set a short-term goal of saving money for a down payment on the home, and work toward the purchase price if it is possible. The extra money might be diverted to meet another goal and that would be to pay the closing costs or taxes due at time of closing.

Long-term ownership goals could be set to maintain an emergency fund to replace or repair broken pipes or inoperable appliances. Personal goals setting might require personal sacrifices and people might find that they are unable to reach the goals as planned and may have to select cheaper appliances to realign costs with the goals that they set for home buying. The goals for home buying will continuously change in order of priority but with concentration on the end goal all things are possible.
